Task: Confirm Initial Business Continuity Test
The purpose of this task is to ensure that the testing for business continuity is planned and the initial business continuity test is performed, once the continuity needs and objectives have been identified.

Main Description

After the Business Continuity Plan is created, the Engagement Manager should plan for testing the plan. This helps to identify any gaps and ensures that when business continuity has to be invoked, it happens smoothly.

Testing plan of business continuity should include scenarios that should be tested, how they will be tested, tools and platforms used, how often and who will be involved in the testing, including suppliers. These will be included in the Business Continuity Plan. Typical scenarios are:

  • Network discontinuity
  • Location unavailability
  • Cyber incident
  • IT outage
  • Any other

Testing can be done by:

  • Walkthrough or tabletop to do a simulation
  • Call tree to check accuracy of phones of key people
  • Partial fail over / real test
  • Timebound testing to check feasibility of a time commitment in a given continuity option
